What kind of Yogi Are You?

I'm a Hippie Yogi!

A Hippie Yogi

When you're not doing yoga or marching in protests, you divide your time between
hugging trees and flashing peace signs at people you don't know. You truly
care about the world around you and take action to make it a better place for
everyone to enjoy--including your furry friends. You're warm, welcoming,
and a lot of fun.

Be careful, however, not to let your dedication to your cause alone determine your
actions--take time for yourself every now and then, too. Everything in moderation
will make you more balanced in your yoga practice and in your life.

Take the Yoga Journal Yoga Snob Quiz!

WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! Thanks Yoga Journal for that thought provoking quiz. Honestly, I had a hard time answering most of those questions as I felt like none of the answer options really suited me. I know some of you have a gripe with YJ and I can totally understand why. This ridiculous quiz, at least I think it is, just goes to show that there's a population out there that they're still not targeting. Maybe this was suppose to be taken as a joke but I thought it was a bit silly.

Here is some of MY REAL answers:

  • How do you choose a yoga class?
I read the class description, if it is at a studio I have never been to before, I may take one level lower than I am use to taking.

  • What kind of water bottle do you bring to class?
A Poland Spring bottle that I refill at the water cooler at my job so I save money.

  • What song always puts you in the mood to bust out a yoga pose?
    There isn't any.

  • What’s your favorite drink for rehydration after yoga?
    Water

  • What do you before class while you’re waiting for your teacher to arrive?
I'll stretch a little bit, then I will meditate.

  • Who are your closest friends?
The ones I grew up with.

  • It’s your birthday: What do you ask for?
    Something from my Amazon Wishlist.

Looks like they consider me a hippie yogi as well. Not sure I agree with that either. I wonder if anyone honestly models their yoga practice after Gweneth Paltrow.

The quiz was pretty ridiculous so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that it was more for entertainment value than actually determining if you are a yoga snob or not.

I agree with you about YJ not targeting a group of people out there but I'm not sure it's possible because many folks can't be categorized. I don't know about you, but I'm an environmentally-conscious, yoga practicing person who's doing a lot of searching for centeredness. At the same, I love dancing to booty shaking music with my biotches. How do you target that demographic? :-)

Apparently I'm a Balanced Yogi. A couple of the questions I didn't bother answering, as none of the answers really fit me.

You love your friends unconditionally and accept them for who they are no
matter what their yoga style preference, religious beliefs, or spending habits.
You focus on the good in people and would never try to change them. Almost
everyone feels comfortable in your presence. You live your yoga. You are an
    inspiration to yoga students everywhere!

Though I agree this was probably just for laughs, I do love the people in my life unconditionally (well, as close as a human can get to "unconditional"). I doubt I'm an inspiration ~ I laugh too much during class.

Your right, Marilyn- this was a silly quiz. I think they were trying to be tongue in cheek with all the silliness about my guru this and my guru that... and to promote themselves as well.
Oh, and I was a balanced yogi- riiight...

I'm probably a hippie yogi, but that test was pretty lame, solely for entertainment value. not like the SERIOUS quizes I've posted on my blog! (insert rolling eyes smiley here.)

YIKES! I'm the Balanced Yogi! But I really look more like the Hippie Yogi....(and it's still a lame quiz)

Bwahaha...I got balanced yogi but yep, it was so hard to try and align yourself to any of the answers. Silly indeed. How about a category for Rock Chic Yogi ;-)

Just jumping in here to say hello and to say that I completely agree with you about the YJ quiz - it IS silly. It has to be entirely tongue-in-cheek on their part...right??

You're right on!! I didn't take the quiz and didn't even see it, but tomorrow I hope to post my answers and reference your post at my blog.

    Take care, KK

i think a lot of us had problems with that silly quiz...yoga journal doesn't realize that they are so close to the mark that they have shot themselves in the foot.

And I thought I was the only one who had difficulty choosing an answer from among the options! What a relief to find all your comments!

I came out a yoga snob. But really now, I never gave the results much credence anyway.

Your idea of making up your own answers is a great one. Think I will go back to my post and add my REAL answers.

I saw the creation of the quiz during my internship with YJ, and yes, it was meant to be silly. One afternoon I laughed so hard that I had to leave the office early. FYI, I think a more serious one is on the way.
